Licensed Residents in Counseling

Licensed Residents in Counseling provide affordable mental health counseling as they complete their residencies under the supervision of a Licensed Professional Counselor. They have completed their master’s level educations and this supervised residency is the final step in obtaining their Licensed Professional Counselor designation.

Kelly Pittman, MA, Licensed Resident in Counseling

Using a more holistic approach, I believe that a person’s physical, emotional, social/environmental, and spiritual well-being all play a role in one’s sense of self and overall health. It can be difficult seeking help and I consider the counseling room a sacred space. You can expect a session or two of introduction and then together, we develop a direction. I truly enjoy what I do and desire to help empower those I meet by increasing self-understanding and recognizing needs.

I have obtained a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. My experience includes working with depression, anxiety, trauma, family/relationship dynamics, ADHD, and I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and SYMBIS (Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts). I enjoy research and have presented with colleagues on multiple occasions at the Virginia Counselors Association conference on topics such as childhood diagnosis, Complex PTSD, and Counselor self-care specifically with trauma/EMDR work.

In my off hours, I enjoy spending time with my husband of twenty years and three growing children, while also challenging myself to learn and try new things. Other things that bring me joy include being outdoors, gardening, restoring and creating things for the home, and hanging out with youth.
